I have amassed a grand total of fifty-seven pounds and thirteen pence, but I am unsure as to what stake I should begin with on the road to a certain fortune.

Perhaps thats his bank. I am curious about the "units" for his stakes and bank. The thread has changed from a debate about Martingale (useful for me, ta!) to morbid fascination with someone who appears to be a complete nutter. But there ain't enough info coming from the OP. Massive losses from the previous round appear to have disappeared into the ether. Stake, bank, currency, bookie.exchange with liquidity to accept these massive bets and perhaps most of all the maths (without revealing his super algo) that underpins his waffling all absent from his posts.

You have to hand it to OP for coming up with a new style Martingale system. Do a Martingale and when you blow your bank double your bank and stake, or in this case multiply by 7.7.
