Stumbled across this on linkedin
Principal Machine Learning Engineer
Betfair

Project: Predicting customer betting behaviors and betting skills

Technology: Scala, Java, Bayesian Networks, Gaussian Processes, Machine Learning

Is this describing innocent customer profiling or working out what the premium chargers are doing?

Probably mate

This is what upsets me about BF. That kind of snide behaviour, is the exact kind of company BF were trying to oppose when they started out

Its a bit like Vegas blackjack. If they think someone might be super smart counting cards they will get thrown out and banned from all casinos. They even have CIA like tecnology to face profile people. Thats how much they hate winners.... i guess bookies are the same

I'm surprised there has never been any stories by old employees giving an insight into the type of grey areas BF most likely get up to with their in house trading. You would think at the very minimum, they don't have to encounter in-play delays.

Doesnt have to be negative. If your're a business you want to know what your customers preferences are and what their buying behaviour is.

Why do people on here slag Betfair off so much? Bite the hand that feeds you comes to mind. People are happy to earn money from Betfair so why not praise what they do a bit more or otherwise go to Betdaq?

The reason why is the introduction of the Premium Charge - before that people sang BF's praises. Their customers were their best marketing team. They introduced the PC and it changed over night forever more.

Imagine in the future if Betfair could predict to a high degree of certainty the steps/trades you as an individual were going to make when a set of figures were put in front of you?..............

The future may be here.

Put simply, Betfair make money from EVERY winning trade that goes through their site.

Traders are NOT earning money from Betfair - but from losing traders - like me! LOL TBH, I'm surprised Betfair don't charge the losers as well......Maybe that'll come! :-)

And don't even get me started on their slow video feeds........... :-)

It's because of how they changed. BF now represents everything they hated when the company first started

It's a bit like finding a new girlfriend......she's beautiful, different and you can't get enough of her - a few years later she alters, she just ends up like every other girlfriend you've had. It's the disappointment that she changed that creates the hostility
