Had a bumper day yesterday trying out new ideas on trading greyhounds.

For those who are interested have a look at the following:

Combined volume % of 1st and 2nd favourite > X and then do something with the others if they between your acceptable odds range.

Don’t know why I didn’t think about it ages ago.

Good luck. :)

I probably have this data archived if you want me to have a look at back testing it.

Yes please Peter. :)

What I did was trade 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th (LTB) IF 1st and 2nd combined volume % > 66% (making sure that each was > 25%)

Only in Graded races, 3 minutes to post and market volume > £1,000.

You wanted a backtest...I don't know what months Peter will use for your backtest but eg Jan2019...

At 3mins..
3525 races
499 (14%) Had 1st and 2nd both over 25% tvol
1459 (41%) Had Tot tvol >1000
1853 (53%) Had Top2 > 66% tvol
211 (6%) Met all 3 conditions, 7 races a day

Results to £1 level

I also ran this for all reasonable percentages and amounts for your 3 parameters, and for a range of entry times. Everything is very similar. So many people are scanning thousands of these simple if this and that scenarios on a regular basis that strategies like this don't last long even if you do find one. They might have worked 10yrs ago but now the markets need a different way of thinking. Your OP mentioned a range of prices but I tried several hundered combinations of those too and other than having a filtering effect, the pl remained predictably bad.

eg Only 16 - 50

Hi Shaun,

Thanks for this.

Was this just laying them and see what happens or trading and closing before the start ?

Lay at 180s, close at 0s
Can you split by lay / back? I.e. if you let the lay run is it profitable as the close at 0 will lose money regardless.

I was just doing a 10min test of what the OP was running out of curiosity and posted the result. This isn't something I'm actually looking at.
