Been looking at the others again.

Live at the Sands (mjmorris335) and JJ Cale (Dave Angel). Awesome choices.
I'd missed the Cale/Clapton album but having listened to it the CD's on its way.

Live At The Sands was the confluence of two consummate artists.

Sinatra was absolutely at the peak of his powers; he'd hit higher (and lower) notes in his younger years (take a listen to Ol' Man River) but his phrasing here was in a world of its own. No other singer male or female has ever come close to this performance IMV.

The Basie band was mighty, too. Those buggers just breathed as one.

Add to that great songs, brilliant arrangements by Quincy Jones, Nelson Riddle (his arrangement of I've Got You Under My Skin has never been played better), Gordon Jenkins and others and you've got an almost perfect album.

And an absolute triumph of mic placement, mixing and sound engineering too. Everyone at the very top of their game.
