Seen that happen a few times including in Grand tours, usually, it's on a mountain top finish where after crossing the line the race loops back around 15-20kms to climb it a second time - only some forget.

It's happened in the Kellogg's tour of Britain in the 1980's, London, but it wasn't the rider's fault ‒ some official rang the bell a lap early!

But even worse, an 18-year-old rider rode out a finish in a one-and-a-half mile race at Wolverhampton without realising there was a circuit to go. The race was only 1.5 laps!!

I couldn't believe how much the guy in the video had left in the tank after sprinting at the end of Lap 5/6.
To even catch up is impressive, let alone still be in contention like that... :!:

Imagine the In-Play market. :lol:

People might also remember when £35k at 1.01 got turned over at for this blunder at Fakenham a few years ago.
The the eventual 2nd also got turned over for 1.01 that race. Crazy.
