I don't think it's always a case of people being tightwads, Shaun, they're just not aware they're going to get restricted for using an option within the program.

Practice mode is a total waste of time. BA may as well just remove it from the software, as people are getting punished for using it.

I don't understand why anybody would pay for BA subscription, but be too scared to use £2 stakes for trades

If you're a virgin, you can practice putting on a condom until you're an expert, but the most important thing of all, is firstly finding yourself a shag. Trading with real money is nothing like trading on a practice screen. Get off there and start using £2 stakes. If you're too scared to place real cash, then you're buggered in this game

Yep, practice mode is pretty much just to figure out what the buttons do.

I'd agree with some of those points especially the fact practice mode is a waste of time and gives people a false idea of how the markets operate but I doubt the majority of people using it are too scared of placing £2 bets. To most they'll just treat it as what it is , a practice option within the program, they'll rack up profits by trialling with hundreds then go live with their fivers and find it doesn't work in real life and keep going back to practice mode ad nauseaum wondering where it's all gone wrong until they're restricted :|

I get it, but it's not a great start if you don't rtfm on the BA site or the BF site. Best part of getting a new gadget is reading the manual. Maybe I'm strange that way too. ;)

I think I need to do a video on that.

Practice mode is crucial when using new software - if you're going to back the entire field at 1.5 instead of laying it, it's best done in practice mode!

I think it is useful for new traders to get a bit of practice at swing trading and a feel for how the markets move in relation to your trades, but only for a very limited amount of time. Too many traders are spending weeks in practice mode and just wasting their time, or wonder why it all goes tits-up when they start trading for real.

If you are using live mode to maually trade every day, decent sized stakes, and open other instances of BA in practice mode to test automation do you think this would be ok with Betfair?

Many thanks

Probably, but I guess it would depend on the amount of use of practice mode. I doubt anybody knows what algorithm Betfair use to determine commercial usage.

Practice mode can be useful to get the hang of the markets.Today, just a few minutes ago my little in-play automation file threw up a £43 loss - it's called BASIC 3m cos' it usually returns a nice little profit on three milers - not with this sort result:-
catt 15.30 2nd feb.PNG
That looks like a two horse race with one horse having three heads (thankfully I was using record/practice mode- so it did't hurt a bit) . Look at the low column 1.01, 1.03, 1.12 and the fave came in at a miserable 2.4!
Use 2PC's one for live and one for practice use the practice to test automation.
