Hi,
would I be right in thinking that an order will fire into the market quicker using in-play trader with an automation file loaded as opposed to a click on a spreadsheet to fire an order ?
Just using practice mode and that seems to be the case with my crude measurment seeing how fast the order appears in the matched bets window.
thanks
Paul
Speed - Automation vs Spreadsheet
Yes, automation is far quicker than manually submitting an order.
Automation would trigger as soon as a price refresh was done if all conditions etc were met
When concentrating very hard the average human response time is 200ms-300ms by which time the software could have refreshed the prices over 10 times.

Thanks Dallas ..
Just to clarify .. I am talking about submitting an order by either ..
1/ clicking on the in-play trader screen on a market that has an automation file assigned
as opposed to ..
2/ Clicking a button on a spreadsheet ..
thanks again ..

If your comparing manually placed orders there won't be any speed difference from submitting via the one-click screen, ladder, in-play trader or excel,
it's only when comparing a manual order to an order submitted by automation where automation is much faster than human reaction time
Hi I have another question regarding speed.
If I have a very good internet speed from Virgin Broadband, will the BetAngel VPS still be faster?
And does computer affect the speed of refresh and placing orders?
I run BA on a Mac with Windows installed and it works pretty good but sometimes I am wondering if I am missing on the speed.
Sometimes bets don't get matched in play but that could be normal not relating to the speed of connection or computer but simply because of too fast price movement.
Thanks

It makes no difference if you have a 3mb or 300mb connection it's the ping that is important and dictates the speed you get responses from the Betfair servers.cmuddle wrote: ↑Wed Sep 19, 2018 3:47 pmHi I have another question regarding speed.

When using polling a typical PC within the UK if you look at the first number (response time taken to retrieve latest price update) should typically flick between 25-50, on a Bet Angel VPS this is normally around 12-18
So the response time to Betfair is quicker from a VPS and is a definite advantage when using automation from a VPS, when manually trading via a VPS you also have the remote connection from you to the VPS, so with a good connection it will work out to be similar to using BA on a desktop PC

I use mostly automation and was wondering if I can try VPS for one month?

I can't comment on the BA VPS as I don't use it, but not all VPSs are equal. You'd hope they'd be faster but I could set up a VPS at home and sell you space on it to run BA, and it would run like a dog. I also wouldn't give you 247 support if you needed it or were worried about 3am crashes, even if they are once in a blue moon.
It depends really on the infrastucture and where everyone is. You're either running:
[You]....<lots of data>....[BF]
or
[You]....<tiny amount of data or none>....[VPS]....<lots of data>....[BF]
Will the VPS speed overcome the extra step?
It will if the link between you and the world is slow, reducing that data load helps. But if you live nextdoor to BF Data Centre then a VPS probably won't help you much. Except of course it can blaze away 247 and free up your pc, and the cost can be offset against your reduced leccy bill and capital expenditure.
Speed can become an obsession, before you know it you'll be investigating whether the pipeline from Manchester to Dublin is faster than the one from London to Dublin. Or maybe you should live in Dublin, if you think saving 2ms would make up for having to live in Dublin.
There is no free trial with the ones supplied by BA, they are charged per month which you can cancel at any timecmuddle wrote: ↑Wed Sep 19, 2018 5:26 pmDallas wrote: ↑Wed Sep 19, 2018 5:06 pmIt makes no difference if you have a 3mb or 300mb connection it's the ping that is important and dictates the speed you get responses from the Betfair servers.cmuddle wrote: ↑Wed Sep 19, 2018 3:47 pmHi I have another question regarding speed.

When I try this using command prompt to poll www.betfair.com I just get a message saying request timed out.Dallas wrote: ↑Wed Sep 19, 2018 5:06 pmWhen using polling a typical PC within the UK if you look at the first number (response time taken to retrieve latest price update) should typically flick between 25-50, on a Bet Angel VPS this is normally around 12-18

Works fine for every other website I poll though

I wanted to try out BA Server Edition on a VPS but it is not opening and this is the message that I get?
It's running Windows 2016 Standard Edition x64 xen
Thanks
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.
You will need to install the regular version of Bet Angel Pro if the VPS has been provided by anyone other than Bet Angelcmuddle wrote: ↑Thu Sep 20, 2018 8:15 pmHi DallasDallas wrote: ↑Wed Sep 19, 2018 5:06 pmIt makes no difference if you have a 3mb or 300mb connection it's the ping that is important and dictates the speed you get responses from the Betfair servers.cmuddle wrote: ↑Wed Sep 19, 2018 3:47 pmHi I have another question regarding speed.

The Server edition can only be used on VPS's supplied by Bet Angel, if you try to use it on a VPS supplied by another company or on a desktop PC you will get that error code 6.
I can't help you with why you can't ping the Betfair website (i get the same message) so it must be something they have there end to stop it but if your trying to test your speed to Betfair the Bet Angel software connects to Betfair via the API so pinging the general website will likely give you a different response time anyway.RonObvious wrote: ↑Thu Sep 20, 2018 2:38 pmWhen I try this using command prompt to poll www.betfair.com I just get a message saying request timed out.Dallas wrote: ↑Wed Sep 19, 2018 5:06 pmWhen using polling a typical PC within the UK if you look at the first number (response time taken to retrieve latest price update) should typically flick between 25-50, on a Bet Angel VPS this is normally around 12-18

It would be better to just test via the responsiveness indicators within Bet Angel while polling is enabled
