People are sick and tired of a system that benefits the few at the expense of the many
That's called capitalism. What do you suggest otherwise?
No it's not. What we have is crony capitalism where many "businesses" are deemed too big to fail and where corporate interests are allowed to quietly control things (see EU lobbying, funding for US parties, TIPP etc.). The response to the financial crisis tells you everything you need to know about who the system work for.

If we had true capitalism then the market would set interest rates, they wouldn't be controlled by a central bank (that's central planning, i.e. far closer to a communist model). Wolfie would be proud!

In 2008 I was very happy with the fed stepping in to rescue AIG. It's not all bad.

It looks like Macron is going to win the first round.
His contender is not certain yet.
Laying MLP at 1.24 on the "Final two" market makes sense. You never know....

Sorry LeTiss, this was two hours ago. Macron to win first round is at 1.03 right now!
Macron winning second round at 1.17 is still value. But better to wait as two weeks is a lot of time in politics.

That's a shame for genuine French people

There again, you only need to open a history book to see the French have always been scared of conflict

I was fine with the response, I woke up in the morning and still had a pension.

Sure, 'we' had to bail out a few banks for a few billion quid. But that's chicken feed compared to the economic value the banks have provided for the last 100 years. A gambler can't be up every day, and our lifetime P/L on Banking is still well in the green. When times were good I didn't see hordes of people declining free banking or handing half their pension back because the return on what they'd put in was too high. We had an unusually bad year and suddenly everyone's an expert and wants to bin a perfectly good long term strategy. Granted it's not perfect but far better than either extreme.

Clinton got backed to sub 1.1 didn't she? Far from over imo, but if Macron wins it gives us more reason to hate the French ;)

I'm not French.:)
The figures that all the French media were giving yesterday were not polls but actual polling station results.
His lead of over 2 pts over MLP before the big cities were in was simply to large for her to overcome, and the odds were still at 1.25.
The only moment I regretted backing him is when Reuters reported the count was going in MLP's favor. Macron then drifted all the way to 2's for a couple of minutes before steaming back down at 1.15. Backing it at 2's .... what a dream!

Anyway, it's been a great election to trade so far, looking forward to more!
Who cares about politics anyways!:)

Without running the risk of sounding callous - I'm sure Le Pen is hoping and praying for another appalling terrorist attack before May 7th
