What’s with this new idea of starting some weekday meetings at 12 pm in the summer?
I can understand it on a Saturday, in fact I think it would be a good idea to do it on a Saturday with some of the lesser meetings to help with the fixture congestion. But to do it mid week in the summer just seems daft.
I know nobody is forcing us to trade or bet on every race, and maybe it is done to give jockeys more time for travel. Though it just seems unnecessary.
Scaramouche !
Mid week 12 pm starts.

When I had an office job and hung about in the bookies at lunchtimes I used to hate having to go back to work just as the racing was starting. Maybe the lunchtime racing is intended for all those who aren't lucky enough to have the afternoons off?TraderFred wrote: ↑Tue Jun 04, 2019 10:25 pmWhat’s with this new idea of starting some weekday meetings at 12 pm in the summer?
Six meetings on tomorrow. Peter might post his breakdown of the gaps between races on the racing thread but with six meetings there would be a lot of five-minute gaps between races. Perhaps a longer spread from start to finish is needed.

Well they still have 3-5 evening meetings to look forward to as well, unless they are unlucky enough to not have their evenings off either.
Perhaps the BHA could introduce some summertime morning meetings too, for those who are unfortunate enough to have to work both afternoons and evenings?

Jockeys often have to work ride early in the morning before a drive across the country to get to the racetrack. They're already getting up at 4am just to make an afternoon meeting so it would be a major overhaul for trainers to get organised for morning racing.
Yeah that's the price you have to pay when a part of your business is semi-automatic

I was not a fan as it meant it wasn't worth turning up for the early races and then had 15 min gaps which I dislike later on. Hopefully they don't bring it back.
