I suspect though, for whatever reason, that somebody is taking their own bets because it happens very early when the market opens.
I wouldn't be suprised to hear that Liam snags a few of them.

Or maybe it's you....

On the odd occasion though, my few quid would get matched at crazy prices, as you often see in the Betfair graph.

Tinfoil hat theory is that someone is protesting about how **** the graphs are and is trying to force them to change
That's not a bad theory as clearly, and frustratingly, it destroys the graphs.

If only they were mine!

I manage to get some crazy prices on illiquid markets, but never that crazy.

How many times per month would you expect a fat fingers bot to fire? Or maybe I should be asking how many times per year ?

Cheers

I think you should be asking how many times a day!!

They happen often enough, so I'm sure if you looked at every runner, every race every day you would see quite a few of them.

Really that many? Was expecting it to be somewhat of a rareity, maybe just when a bot misfires

I'm not so sure they are all bots as people still make manual mistakes. I was trading on a race a while ago when suddenly, every graph bar the favourites hit 1000. Clearly somebody tried to back the field at 1000 - and pressed the lay button.

I made a massive schoolboy error last night. Not a fat finger as such, but still worth mentioning - thankfully it only cost me £15 though

It was my own fault though, and I know others who have fallen foul of this - I was trading Frankfurt v Liepzig and was looking to lay under 4.5 goals. I placed a trade at 1.14 for £250, but forgot that my previous trade hadn't been for 'fixed stake', it had been for 'liability (lay only)'

Instead of placing a trade of £250 stakes, it placed a liability trade of £250 stakes - £1785!

This is an interesting thread. I tend to use the Betfair and Betdaq mobile apps when I'm out and about. Have made some horrendous errors when backing or laying things due to the stake buttons being too close together. On one occasion I had about £1000 in my betfair account, thought I'd just backed an outsider for £4 as I occasionally do when I think they're overpriced relative to their chance. I looked at my phone and to my horror I only had about £50 in my account!, I had just laid the outsider for £50! I was very fortunate because almost immediately by pure chance it was pulled out of the race at the start. On another occasion I had about £104 in my betdaq account had a small bet I thought of £4 on a horse. Looked at my screen a minute later I only had £4 in my account! somehow had ended up backing it for £100! It was acutally about 7/1 exchange price was running a mighty race drawing clear between the last 2 jumps, I started to relax suddenly another horse emerged and ran mine down jumped past it at the last the 2 of them well clear. Suddenly the leader stumbled and the jockey nearly went out the side door and was clinging to the horse's neck. My jockey tried to re galvanise his mount but the leader in an extreme case of horsemanship managed to get back in the saddle and hold on by 1/2 lenghth. The sad thing is I was unfamiliar with the concept of laying off so could have put in a lay bet in running at the off. We live and learn!
