Anyone trading from a restricted country or ISP?
I'm looking at potential trouble brooding on the horizon, looks like my ISP is going to block the Betfair website any day now, along with other foreign bookie websites because of their "illegal" operation in my area. Would be interested in hearing how traders with similar issues managed to deal with them. I realize it can be a sensitive subject and I understand if someone is reluctant to discuss it on a public forum, but you can send me a PM instead if that's what you prefer.
You could use a VPS, Bet Angels are located in the UK, if you use automation it will also give you a slight speed advantage than your getting from your current location

You probably have more to fear from Betfair pulling the plug.
There are loads of traders I know that are based in countries that are not technically legal, but they remote into other countries or use accounts domiciled elsewhere. So as long as you have an account that can legally 'operate' in a legitimate country then you will be ok.
There is one chap I have been chatting to for 15 years or so and every time we meet it's in a different location. He is really living the dream! But his actual account is in the UK, despite the fact he wasn't born here.

not really related directly to your dilema, but using a VPS would be your best bet as this will effectively drop under the radar as your ISP will only *see* the connection to the VPS, not the activity that it undertakes.
depending on the package, you can set this up very quickly for anything between £15 and £45 per month... I use it despite being UK based as i like the robust connectivity and *can go anywhere* freedom that it gives me. Can even monitor from my mobile (at a push) from the pub
as Euler says, maybe the best *next* step would be to establish a UK account also.

Betfair pulling the plug is the one real worry that I always had, at this point it's looking more likely than not, judging by how things went in neighboring countries. The long term plan was always to move somewhere in the UK like many other traders have done, I was under no illusion that trading from my location would get complicated in the long run. Oddly enough, my brother already moved to Newcastle last year for work, although he is part of a different (video game) industry. I haven't yet decided when to make the switch myself so I'll have to find a trading solution in the meantime. I guess I'll have to wait and see how Betfair reacts to the website restriction and take it from there.
If your brother would open a Betfair account here you could use that via a VPS and have no worry of being closed down / stopped.Kai wrote: ↑Fri Jun 07, 2019 5:42 pmBetfair pulling the plug is the one real worry that I always had, at this point it's looking more likely than not, judging by how things went in neighboring countries. That is certainly one option, although I would have a few premium charged questions before I could do thatDallas wrote: ↑Fri Jun 07, 2019 6:04 pmIf your brother would open a Betfair account here you could use that via a VPS and have no worry of being closed down / stopped.Kai wrote: ↑Fri Jun 07, 2019 5:42 pmBetfair pulling the plug is the one real worry that I always had, at this point it's looking more likely than not, judging by how things went in neighboring countries. Well that escalated quickly, they already blocked me in the last few mins from accessing the Betfair website. But I'm still able to log in via two different trading softwares, the API side of things works and I'm able to trade normally. If it stays like this, that would be hilarious.
You sir, are a genius.
It only seems like yesterday that I was living under internet tyranny unable to fully access my favorite exchange
Freedom at last, or at least until Betfair sends me a breakup email. Thanks for the replies everyone, hopefully that's the last of it.
Hello,
another fellow Croatian here. Quite out of my mind (not good for trading purposes) to see that any moment now years and years of education and hard work might go down the drain. Oh yeah and majority of my income in life.
My ISP will block Betfair in the upcoming days, I withdraw almost all my money and now I'm trying to find a short term solution. That probably means until(if) Betfair decide to close my account. In that short term I would like to try and avoid jeopardizing the longer future term of my account as moving to another country is possible but I would need to buy at least a few months of time. Most of the people are telling me just to use VPN and everything will be ok but VPS option sounds better to me. At least on paper. I don't have any experience with it.
Any suggestions (especially those based on the first hand experience) are more then welcome.
Thank you.
p.s. alternatively I could just set up gofund me page and you can feel free to help me continue my lavish traders livingstyle entwined with illicit substances and young (but legal) female companions.

Im british and living in thailand. With betangel i dont even need a VPN. Geekstoy i did need a VPN, not sure how long this will last for but seems to be working fine.
I dont have a fixed UK adress anymore too. its linked to an adresss i lived at 12 years ago and still, no problems.
Worse case, you fly to UK for a while. Rent and create a UK bank account.........
Remember that we will be leaving the EU very soon so id act quick if this is the case

Sounds like you're doing it right
Are you the trader that Peter mentioned earlier in the thread? Either way, sounds like you potentially have a good story to tell so feel free to share some of it, I'm sure a lot of Brits would love to hear about how you ended up in Thailand

Bit of a long story but i used to be a dj and travel a bit. then bought some shares in a club in Thailand. so kind of made a base here from years ago. Made the big move a few years later after getting a little bored with UK and recessions ect.
Started full time trading this year but been on and off since 2002. Thinking of leaving Thailand soon though, not sure where to go yet but my current visa is running out quickly.
