Been looking at SP values on Betfair and last traded price on a range of data. It is amazing how often SP values are way out from LTP. The volumes in the market are not changing much so it begs the question of where is the this money coming from when and why? Very odd.

How is the SP calculated? Obviously the LTP can't be that significant, as you could lay the fav for £2 at longish odds while backing it at sp for substantially more.

Wouldn't surprise me if Betfair have been tinkering again to fiddle the figures. If you look at todays overrounds out of the 31 only 6 have been over 100% the highest being 100.9% the majority in the 98%'s

It's very odd isn't it?

Odd indeed, you can be pretty sure they're not enhancing the BSP out of there own pockets so likely to be some change in the reconciliation process.

Probably looking at ways they can take money from the exchange to feed the new sportsbook without risk.

Not sure where you found that article but there are fundamental flaws in it. Whoever wrote it needs to go back to Betfair school and learn about the Betfair SP.

I've noticed that too. It seems that it's not worth it. I got caught a fwe times.
And if the stake is not too big than the <keep bets inplay> is much more profitable, otherwise just get out in time..

If your bets are form-based (as mine are) the SP is exactly what you want. It seems the SP is calculated a few strides into the race...again..if you're a form student, it's exactly what you want, since objective form has had a few seconds to assert itself, pushing the price away from the last traded price (which was based more on sentiment).

Here is a link to Betfair's explanation: -

http://www.betfair.com/help/Help.SP.Betting/

The curious thing about the current SP situation is that from what I can see money isn't on the table at the point of SP but it must have been after it was resolved because the SP is so far off the last price. I know people can react to how a horse starts but a lot of the time this doesn't seem to have a correct bearin on what happens at SP. It seems shot to bits at the moment. I agree with other comments above that using keep bets seems a more viable alternative at the moment.
