Some people (well a lot of people) bet for entertainment and don't care about price or who the bookmaker is they'll bet because they like the jockey or the horse name or have some sentimental link to a team or whatever, it's not a mistake and there's absolutely nothing wrong with betting with soft bookmakers whether your a noob or a seasoned bettor.
