Just had an email from Betfair taking a look back at my past month.

"You've been a loyal customer for 8127 days" (= 22.5 years!)

Is that a prelude to getting banned?....

So I thought i would start the process of communication to get a timeline etc.

I sent this email ;

Hi xxxxx,

Can you please give me an idea as to how long the review to return my funds will take.

Also, I paid £300 for an API key which I can no longer use, please ask if this will be refunded.

Thx

and got this automatic reply ;

Hi there, I am currently out of office. I shall reply to you on my return on Monday 6th May 2024. In the meantime, for anything urgent, please escalate to my esteemed colleagues on xxxxx

I seriously don't know if he is taking the piss

It depends on how long your willing to wait, patience, etc.
For me it would be a small claim court heading in their direction, plus fees ...
You may be surprised how quick you get your money back.

Up to you ....

They will either settle very quickly or get their legal team out which would do them no favours in the press and social media if you went down that route.

Personally, I would email the CEO of the parent company and request a response within 7 days otherwise you lodge a complaint with all countries betting authorities where Betfair is in operation etc.

I have actually done this Archie, it was some time ago ....
I'm not interested in territories, geo-politics. They had a footprint in UK, Hammersmith W6 so that's where the small claim landed. As far as I was concerned they are fair game I believe that's what the English call it.

They paid up promptly. Including the administration fee - All GOOD assholes

Thx for the advice.

I will wait till maybe Tuesday and escalate things.

I see from the Gov website you need address/email etc of the person/business involved.

I think the CEO email is on here somewhere .. will maybe email him and ask for his address for the filing.

[email protected]

You’ll be asked for the name, address and email address of the person you’re claiming against.

You’ll also need either:

a debit or credit card to pay the court fee
your ‘help with fees’ reference number if you’ve already applied for help with fees online
If you still need to apply for help with fees, you can do this while you make your money claim online.

They won’t want a CCJ going against them and being logged on the company’s credit file as it will cause them issues with their UK betting license plus it will remain there for 6 years.

A friend who was kept in the dark for 6 weeks got his 7k back today.

I am sure it's just a coincidence.

He spoke to a human who explained money compliance issues are the problem.

I would bet v short odds I will get repaid - just don't see why they have the arrogance to delay repayment and generally say nothing to you.

I wont wait 6 weeks. His account was closed on Day 1 of Cheltenham.

What did he do to trigger 'money compliance issues'? Do you know?

It feels as though BF are making this up as they go along. It feels almost impossible not to fall into their trap somewhere along the line

Looks like the main issue is basically a massive deposit.
Im sure your acc. wont be locked if you deposit £100 or £200

It just seems crazy to me that they don't look at the whole context. If Mega has churned through millions in 20 years, a £4k deposit shouldn't look out of place. If it's a new user, with very little net profit then that's when alarm bells should maybe ring

My friends issue was sorta expected.

He had a cash punter who lost £300k in 4 months.

A lot of hedging initially took place on Betfair, before going elsewhere.

To get the cash into Betfair he had no option but to deposit chunks in some weeks.

My deposit was v different. I think I might have deposited £8k into my bank in one month, and sent Betfair £3k via debit cards such as Wise (removed) and then Revolut, as I didn’t want Betfair appearing on my bank statements.

It’s clearly wrong my account should be closed - bit am mentally determined not to pay 40% PC, so it’s the same thing.

Having 'Betfair' or any other gambling-related outfit appear on your bank debit card transactions can be VERY harmful for your credit score and future lending decisions. I use Paypal exclusively for deposits and withdrawals then transfer it for free overnight into my current account to avoid being flagged as a gambler.
