I've ordered a copy as well. Thorp is a legend. He has a huge brain and is not afraid to use it. If I remember correctly he was the first ever to do a block trade of stocks worth something like a billion.PeterLe wrote:I fancy reading that..going on a trip soon so will read and report back.. If you havent read Fortunes Formula, there is a section in there on Thorpe
Anyone read any good books?

Very nice interview. I had to laugh when he found out he pissed off the casino bosses so much they cut some wires in his car so he couldn't brake anymore. Amazing that such a brilliant man can be so naive. The interview ends with his view on life. Enjoy what you do, the money will follow. I think that's great advice.

Thorp's book is a wonderful read, I'm half way through and finding it thoroughly enjoyable. I'd place it among my favourites already. Anyone starting out trading/betting would do well to read it, not that it's a 'how to' book in the slightest, it's a wonderful life story, but it does contain (so far) many of the fundamental requirements you need to make a profit from any kind of market/proposition.
I knew much of his story already, but to read it in his very well written words is very enjoyable. It's so much more than a money book, Thorp's best contribution might be his route to learning and understanding, and his thirst for that knowledge. It's funny he mentions Feynman telling him that roulette wasn't beatable, another person I find really inspiring that shared similarities.
I'm already looking forward to a reread, given me plenty of energy to keep looking for returns where I had shelved things. If there's a theme, it is that he mentions more than once the importance of finding out for oneself, that is also what I have always done, even if it costs money. Puts the naysayers into better perspective.

I thought it was interesting, he put the value of planet earth, at £400 trillion.
I suppose one day, planets might be bought and sold, on planetsforsale.com (actually a website)
But yeah, hes my hero.
((( I seem to recall, that u could once buy tracts of land under the north sea -- for little money really, hoping a big Petroleum company, would find oil nearby, and offer u a buy-out )))
Might have longer to wait, if u buy Planet Euler k112

So far it's ok without being brilliant. 7/10 thus fa. I like the Michael Lewis style of writing. (I've read Kahnamen's book and thought this might be interesting).

Haven't finished it yet, but Perfect Bet by Adam Kucharski is very entertaining. About beating roulette, lottery schemes, probabilities. Betfair is mentioned as well.

If anyone wants to just listen to 'Trading in the Zone', it has been placed on YouTube
I've just ordered Mastering Tennis Trading by Daniel Weston, I would imagine a few people on this site have read it but not seen any reviews on here about it. He has made some posts on Peters blog, and I think at one time you could get a copy of it from BA when you took out a subscription.
What did people think of it, there were only a few comments on Amazon UK (not looked at the US site) but they seemed fairly positive.
