Just got an email from Betfair: -

Dear Software Vendor,

This e-mail is to notify you of a pricing change that will affect some Betfair customers. Australian customers are not affected by this change.

From January 24th we'll be sending out emails and web messages to customers in a number of countries (listed below) to inform them that we will be changing the market base rate (MBR) for exchange markets from the 30th January. The new market base rate will be 6.5%

We will be rolling out this change to markets created on and after January 30th 2014.

This means that the Market Base Rate structure will be as follows:

MBR 5%

United Kingdom
Ireland
Italy
Gibraltar
Malta
Denmark

MBR 7%

Albania
Armenia
Croatia
Monaco
Serbia & Montenegro
Slovakia

MBR 6.5%

All other countries

FAQs

• My discount rate is currently x what will I pay in future?

If the 'Market Base Rate' on a market is 5%, and your Discount Rate is 10%, you will pay 4.5% commission on any winnings for that market.

If the Market Base Rate on a market is 6.5% and your Discount rate is 10% you will pay a 5.85% commission on any winnings for that market.

Commission payable is rounded to the nearest two decimal places. If the amount ends in 0.005 it will be rounded up.

• Will it apply from bets settled date or when the bet was placed?

The new MBR will apply to markets created on or after January 30th 2014. Current bets, and bets placed on markets before the new rate was introduced will be settled at the old rate.

• I pay premium charge does it apply to this as well?

It depends on what rate of Premium Charge you are on. If you pay 20% Premium Charge then the MBR change does apply to you.

40%, 50%, and 60% Premium Charge customers will remain on 5%. If you are a higher rate Premium Charge Customer and are being charged a MBR above 5% we will refund your overpayment and ensure you are put back on to 5%

• When will this charge be implemented in the UK?

There are no plans to increase the price in the UK and Ireland. The Market Base Rate will remain at 5%

• Does this include Sportsbook?

This price change applies only to the Exchange. We do not charge commission on sportsbook bets.

• What happens if I move to another country?

As long as you can prove you are resident in a country, you will pay the MBR of that country.

Copy of Customer Communication:
IMPORTANT CHANGES TO EXCHANGE PRICING

Dear Betfair user,

At Betfair you always get the best possible products and services. To ensure you continue to get a premium experience, we are increasing the base commission rate on Betfair Exchange markets in your country to 6.5% from January 30th.

You can of course continue to earn significant discounts of up to 60% on this commission rate through the Betfair points system. A full explanation of how your commission is calculated can be found at Betfair Learning. http://en.learning.betfair.com/app/answ ... /a_id/2486.

This rate increase does not apply to any promotional markets with a fixed commission rate.

Thank you for your continued business and good luck with your future betting at Betfair.

Yours sincerely,

Betfair Customer Service

Another nail in the Betfair coffin.
The self destruct sequence is moving past the point of no return for sure.
Although the small increase may not actually make much difference to most people, the message it sends is profound. They should have altered the wording and said........

"To all our customers, we can get away with taking more from you and you ain't gonna do a thing about it. so Fuck You. regards BF"

Agree with much of what you said if not all but just to point out this was an old thread seemingly brought to life by a Spam bot auto posting. So there are not any new commission rates being launched.

Betfair are tweaking with their commission rates so often, you never know when the next "surprise" will follow. If you want low and stable commission rates, betting brokerage companies can open such an account on your behalf. I've read on other forum that BET-IBC are offering Betfair package with lower commissions. Now,there weren't mentioned any exact numbers so I guess you need to contact them directly via email, chat or skype.

I don't see any other option how to get lower commissions. Maybe someone else knows?
