Hey y'all,

Having just come back from Vietnam after working there for 4 months and having used a *buy at the airport* sim for my phone (which was ultr simple to install and top up thereafter), I'm now wondering how to approach things regards a trip that my wife is taking to the US.

Being FAR more cagey (and wise) than me, she would like to buy her sim card in advance and register everything BEFORE embarking on her trip. I've looked on Amazon and have found quite a few, for example, this one looks pretty good:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/MOST-SIM-T-Mob ... 06535&th=1

She's going to be travelling between Dallas (no relation mr D ;)), Chatanooga, Seattle, Nevada and North Carolina. I therefore thought that the t-mobile offering would be *best* as it seems to give a good wide coverage. (Alternative (real life) experiences welcome).

Also, my wife's contract is tied to 3 (THREE), so potentially her phone is locked to the 3 network. Is this likely to cause complications on swapping out the sim for use abroad??. In my case, I have a dual sim phone that is not locked, so my Vietnam experience was pretty painless. Just hoping this US one won't be fraught with supplier hoops requiring to be jumped thro.

I'm plannning to buy imminently as she travels on the 7th, so hoping someone out there has gone thro this recently.

Just wish she loved Andoid as much as i do -life would be a tad simpler maybe ;)

cheers

Chill

Three phones are unlocked - even iphones - maybe unless it is a really old phone. Try another PAYG sim in the UK before she goes.

Maybe consider a 30 day vodafone contract before she goes Vodafone unlimited max - the plan with the 77 roaming destinations including USA - not the 48 destinations only which doesnt
Not intended for long term use but they wont know until she has been there a couple of months!
Only hassle is cancelling the contract and the inevitible mandatory chat with their customer retention team.

Click the 30 day Radio Button and check out Vodafone unlimited max

Benefits in Roam-further destinations:
It's always free to receive standard rate calls and texts
You can use your UK allowance to call or text standard landlines and mobiles within the destination you're travelling to, as well as the UK
If you go over your inclusive allowance, you'll pay the same rates as you would in the UK
You can enjoy 4G (and 5G later this summer) in more destinations than with any other UK network.

I must be the best vodafone salesman who has never worked in the mobile phone industry!

ok, issue solved. it was actually EE, not THREE. EE offer an addon called ROAM FURTHER (which you mention in terms of vodafone). This basically gives you all of your UK allowances on data, calls and texts for a rolling charge of £10 for the month. You can opt in/out as required.

Excellent value - just a shame I had already bought the t-mobile sim (tho it couldn't be used as the iphone couldn't be unlocked as less than 6 months old!) ;)

When I'm travelling I use Three as that roams everywhere for free. But I've often found roaming options are a bit weedy so I tend to buy a local sim when I arrive wherever I am going.

I also use this: -

https://www.glocalme.com/GB/en-US

As you can install a local sim or use an e-sim on the device.
